Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • Yes. We have created a smooth and efficient process that will allow us to give you an estimate even when we are on the road or not in the office.

    • Residential: $110/hr

    • Commercial: $125/hr

  • Yes. We do require a $220.00 minimum for any repair call, and this does not include the cost of materials.

  • No need to worry. Your estimate typically includes labor, materials, and disposal fees in order to complete your project. Please us know if you will be suppling your own materials and/or disposal for the project.

    Your HandiWorks handyman will come prepared with basic parts needed for everyday small tasks (nails, basic caulk, etc.). For larger parts or materials required, you have the option of purchasing those yourself or having us research and purchase these on your behalf. If you choose the latter, we’ll add a nominal $15 shopping fee to cover the cost of researching and purchasing parts. This fee is fixed (not a percentage) and charged per visit requiring parts (not per part). For parts more than $100, we will also ask for approval to purchase.

    Please note that for parts and materials that you will be looking at or touching every day (e.g. a new kitchen faucet), we suggest you pick it out yourself. We’re happy to provide advice as needed.

  • HandiWorks’ handymen and handywomen can complete jobs of many sizes, ranging from changing light fixtures and hanging artwork to replacing a toilet. See a full list of coverage areas here, which includes installation, assembly, carpentry, patch and paint, drywall, and minor electrical and plumbing. If a new water or power source is needed, we’ll always refer you to a specialist for safety reasons. As soon as we see that a job requires a specialist, we’ll be upfront with you, and can recommend a trusted vendor in our network.

    HandiWorks does not handle ongoing pool care, ongoing landscaping or house cleaning. Our specialist team can help you source vendors for those as necessary.

Handyman Visits

  • At your 30-45-minute free home walk-thru evaluation, you'll meet our walk-thru specialist and review the items on your to-do list. He or she will be upfront about what can be completed by them, and where we'll have to coordinate a specialist. You'll get a great sense of the value you'd receive from HandiWorks. There is no obligation or credit card required. As soon as your walk-thru is booked, you can start adding to your to-do list.

    After your walk-thru, if you'd like to join one of our annual membership programs, you can book your first visit on our website or via phone, or let us know and we can help. When you book your first visit, you’ll be ask to select up to 3 tasks for us to work on at that visit. If we finish those early, we’ll absolutely stay to continue working through your list.

     

    Your handyman will always arrive with booties if needed, and wearing either a HandiWorks jacket, hat, polo, sweatshirt or tee shirt.

  • HandiWorks will design a bespoke home maintenance plan for your home, including over 10 home maintenance tasks important to keeping your home safe and functional. We’ll work with you during your first 60 days to visit your home and document your major systems, to create the plan. Then, we’ll notify you when it’s time to complete maintenance items and you can easily add them to upcoming visits.

  • Every HandiWorks employee puts the safety of you and your family first. Our handymen bring booties to every job and have masks on-hand to wear at your request.

  • It depends. Our typical repairs take anywhere from a couple of hours to 1-5 days depending on the complexity of the project. Our goal and mission is to get you back to your home, or business, as soon as possible.

  • We can typically be at your home or business within 48 hours.

  • You will be assigned your own, personal project manager. They will be your point of contact throughout the duration of the project.

  • We offer free online estimates but reserve the right to request and onsite estimate for $99. This fee will then be applied back towards the project once you move forward.

  • Yes. All labor and workmanship provided by HandiWorks on all repairs are guaranteed for one year from the date of the final invoice.

Home Care Memberships

  • By offering annual memberships, we’re able to provide you and your neighbors with one dedicated handyman who knows you and your home well, and provides the same consistent, reliable, high-quality service every visit. We fully employ our handyman, and by committing to a membership, you are enabling us to hire and retain the very best handyman for your home. Each handyman only takes on a limited set of members, so that they can provide the level of personalization and service we believe in.

    By creating a long-term partnership through membership, we’re able to learn your home and proactively care for it on an ongoing basis, achieving our objective of giving ongoing peace of mind to homeowners with a safe, functional and joyful home.

  • Annual members can choose between our "Starter Home" (17.5 hours of services for $2,200/year), "Family Home" (42 hours of service for $3,900/year), and "Forever Home" (84 hours of service for $7,200/year) plans.

     

    In a select few urban cities (e.g. New York City), our membership cost reflects a premium for increased labor costs. Your billing period begins when you add your payment details, anytime after your walk-thru visit. Memberships are billed upfront for 12 months.

    With your HandiWorks annual membership, you get ongoing service from one skilled, dedicated handyman and partnership from a full team behind the scenes to help address day to day home needs. Each plan comes with a distinct set of visits you can use flexibly over the course of 12 months. A standard visit is 2 hrs. You can use these upfront or spread out as you like. Your handyman will complete jobs on your to-do list, create a bespoke home maintenance plan for your home, and guide you with suggestions to keep your home in great shape. All handyman labor is included and there is no per visit fee for your regular handyman visits.

    For complex jobs that require a specialist by law or crop up urgently, HandiWorks can help recommend trusted vendors from our partner network.

    Membership depends on your location, and a few select urban cities are priced at a premium to cover increased labor costs. If you'd like us to purchase parts on your behalf, we are able to do that as well for a nominal shopping fee, tied to a visit.

    ‍Get started with a free evaluation to walk-thru your to-do list in detail with our walk-thru specialist. We'll also point out things that you may want to consider for safety or functionality. During the visit, he or she will be clear about what they can and can’t do, to help you get a sense of the value you’ll receive from our service. It’s pressure-free, with no credit card required.

  • Annual members can choose between our "Starter Home" (17.5 hours of service for $2,200/year), "Family Home" (42 hours of service for $3,900/year), and "Forever Home" (84 hours of service for $7,200/year) plans. Visits can be use flexibly over the course of one year. You can pre-book visits in advance if you like (e.g. 3rd Friday of the month) or pull time forward and backward as you like. Visits can be booked on our website or via phone. The last 10 minutes of every visit is devoted to clean up and task documentation.

    If you need more visits in a given membership month, you can book additional 2 hour visits for $220. If you require 2 handymen for a particularly complex task, you can do so for an extra fee to cover labor costs.

  • Your HandiWorks handyman will come prepared with basic parts needed for everyday small tasks (nails, basic caulk, etc). For larger parts or materials required, you have the option of purchasing those yourself or having us research and purchase these on your behalf. If you choose the latter, we’ll add a nominal $15 shopping fee to cover the cost of researching and purchasing parts. This fee is fixed (not a percentage) and charged per visit requiring parts (not per part).

    For parts more than $99, we will also ask for approval to purchase prior. Please note that for parts and materials that you will be looking at or touching every day (e.g. a new kitchen faucet), we suggest you pick it out yourself. We’re happy to provide advice as needed.

  • As part of your HandiWorks membership, you can choose to put your unused hours towards seasonal specialized maintenance like gutter cleaning and window washing from one of our partners.

    You'll also have the opportunity to opt into seasonal partner offers that make life easier. In many cases, we’re able to pass along competitive bulk pricing for high-quality vendors such as deep cleaning, carpet cleaning, knife sharpening, and more. You’ll be notified of new seasonal partners in the HandiWorks app, and have the ability to opt in. Once you approve the cost, we’ll help schedule and coordinate your visit. We will pay the vendor on your behalf and will bill you separately.

  • Yes, there is a "Give $250, Get $250" referral program. Members can receive a $250 credit for every new member they refer that signs up for a HandiWorks membership. The credit will be applied to their next invoice(s) from HandiWorks.

    If 10 friends or neighbors sign up from your referral within your first 6 months, we’ll thank you by giving you an entire year free.
